Seeking Survey Participants for Victoria University of Wellington NZ Research Project

Researchers: Siobhan Gardiner and Sophia Kennedy

Supervisor: Dr. Amarie Carnett

Identifying areas of need for professional development for teachers and paraprofessionals who work with children who use augmentative and alternative communication systems. We are researchers from Victoria University of Wellington- Te Herenga Waka’s Faculty of Education. We are conducting research to look at the experience of professional’s who work with children who use augmentative and alternative communication systems (AAC) in the school setting. These systems may include speech generating devices (communication software on i-Pads, tablets or other technology that produce speech), picture exchange communication systems (e.g., PECS), core boards and sign language. This research seeks to understand barriers that teachers and teacher aides may experience when working with children that use these communication systems. This research will also investigate what support professionals are currently receiving, as well as what professional development/support may be needed. Your responses will help guide the creation of professional development resources that the community will be able to access for free online.

Participation in the study is voluntary and all responses will be anonymous. Participation in this study should take approximately 15 to 20 minutes of your time. For those interested, a link will be provided to follow-up on results from this survey after data is analysed. If you are willing to participate, please follow the link. Please feel free to share this information with anyone who might be interested in participation.
